Explosion Proof Simplex Batch pH Adjustment System

This system is displayed because of its' unique application. The system depicted here uses our  "Optimized Batch" Treatment technology as does all of our batch systems. However, that is where the similarity ends. This systems' task is to neutralize concentrated hot sulfuric from a batch reactor. The temperature of the sulfuric can be as hot a 230 F and is laden with solids. As the temperature of the effluent stream begins to drop the solids begin to precipitate out immediately. To make things even more interesting the effluent stream outgases organic solvents that are extremely flammable. This requires that the system be of an Explosion Proof Design. The entire area is classified as Class 1, Division 1.

In order to handle the high solid loading the tanks and plumbing are automatically water flushed after each batch is processed. This is to ensure that the solids do not clog the plumbing and build up in the tanks.

Since the system is installed in an unheated area the caustic storage tank must be heated. Concentrated caustic (50% NaOH) can freeze at temperatures approaching 60 F.

An ISA Class "X" purged Main Control Panel is used to facilitate system operation and service.
